Who's Who at the University of Pennsylvania

Greg Farrington, School of Engineering Dean puter, better known as ENIAC, School of Engineering and Applied Science Dean Greg Farrington is at an all-time high. The world's first programmable computer was designed by those at the Engineering School and Farrington celebrated its anniversary with the rest of the country earlier this year, as even Vice President Al Gore took part in the festivities. Last year, the Engineering School announced plans to revamp its curriculum, to make its classes more accessible to students outside the Engineering School and vice versa. Yet, this success is not new to Farrington, who has been at the University since 1979. Farrington previously worked in the University's Laboratory for Research on the Structure of Matter and taught in the Materials Science and Engineering department. Farrington has also been instrumental in the University's technological achievements, from the spread of Internet access across campus to advocating courses being taught via satellite. Farrington is especially known for his accessibility to students and his constant use and support of e-mail in connection with classroom activity. He received his bachelor's degree from Clarkson University and went on to do graduate work at Harvard University.
