The new indoor pavilion at Cornell proved hospitable to the Quakers. Winning all three doubles matches and five of the singles matches, the Red and Blue won, 6-1. Victorious in singles play were sophomore Marc Fisicaro, junior J.J. Cramer, junior Brad Goldberg, freshman Urs Baertschi and senior co-captain Jeff Jackson. Freshman Udi Kish came up short in a close match against Cornell's No. 1 player. Unfortunately for the Quakers, Army had the discipline of a military academy, as Miller predicted before the match. Its lineup proved too strong. Although facing stiff competition, Penn did not fold -- keeping the game close before losing, 4-3. Giving a superb effort was freshman David Schwartzman, who won his singles match and also won in doubles play teamed with Penn senior Jeff Jackson. While the Quakers lost their other two doubles matches, other singles victories came from Goldberg and Cramer. With a record of 1-1 in the Ivy League, the Quakers look ahead to another weekend of matches against Ivy League foes Dartmouth and Harvard.
