NEWS BRIEFS: USPS mailbox to be

put in Superblock Rockoff said the mailbox will be put in a visible location and that the University's Department of Mail Service will monitor it for one month to gauge student demand. According to Rockoff, the Postal Service will take over the mailbox if the demand is high. Otherwise, University Mail Service will continue to operate it. "It is in the best interest of the University community to have a mailbox there so students don't have to worry about tramping across to the Quad to mail a letter," he said. "It is kind of ridiculous that the [Postal Service] has waited this long and it's long overdue." Rockoff said he will also be taking a tour of the post office at 30th and Market streets in the next week to observe operations and security. He will then make recommendations to improve mail service to the University. Rockoff said he thinks mail security especially needs improvement. He said University mail is stored where anyone can access it and he wants that access to be limited to people picking up mail for the University. – Shannon Burke Everclear will play at U. in April The alternative rock band Everclear will perform a free show at the University in April, according to College senior Mike Parker, director of concerts for the Social Planning and Events Committee. The University won the free concert from Ticketmaster in November. Ticketmaster established a World Wide Web site which college students could visit. Penn won the contest because it had the greatest number of students who logged on. The concert will be held "sometime after spring break and before Spring Fling," Parker said. He declined to be more specific about the date, saying a contract had not yet been signed. "But we have a deal with Ticketmaster," he said. Everclear will also be playing the city's Electric Factory on April 20. "I think they're going to fly in during their tour," Parker said. "I'm hoping to have the concert outdoors, probably around six o'clock at night." He added that student identification will most likely be the only ticket needed. – Doree Shafrir
