Quakers to host pair

Despite the fact that the Penn men's squash team is coming off a loss to Princeton last week, and even though it is an underdog in its matches against Trinity and Amherst this weekend, the Quakers are still confident. "Even though both teams are ranked ahead of us," Penn coach Ned Edwards said, "with our positive momentum, I think we're going to take them both." Amherst is ranked No. 3 in the nation and Trinity follows at No. 4. The Quakers are ranked No. 6. "These matches will define our season, " Edwards said. "We will be ranked third if we win these matches, which is where we belong." Penn (7-3) will be playing at the Ringe Courts at 4 p.m. against Trinity Friday, and at 4:30 p.m. Saturday they will meet the Lord Jeffs. The Quakers will face different challenges in the two matches. Trinity is known for its strength at the bottom of their lineup while Amherst is stronger at the top. Both matches should be very close. "I wouldn't be surprised if both matches were 5-4," Penn co-captain Andrew Braff said. The Quakers are expecting tough matches, but playing at home and having had a over a week to prepare give them certain advantages. "We lost to these teams last year, and we're looking to avenge those losses," senior Ed Vincent said. "This is a really big weekend especially for the seniors. We're going to do everything possible not to lose this weekend. We want to go out on top." The Quakers have been working hard and practicing twice a day for the past three weeks following a loss to Williams. "I think we're the hardest working squash team in the country," senior Ed Gross said. "We work constantly and we work well together. I feel like a machine."
