Headliners: Great One may be traded by Kings

The Los Angeles Kings' star, who usually faces a media crush at these games, is expected to get more than the usual attention because of his current dealings with his team's management. Gretzky will be a free agent after this season and right now, he's not happy to be a King. He probably won't be wearing a Kings' uniform after this season, unless management meets his demands to acquire another quality scorer and defenseman to make the team more competitive. Otherwise, Gretzky has said, he wants to be traded so he can realize his dream of winning another Stanley Cup before he retires. He has four, all with the Edmonton Oilers before he was traded to Los Angeles in 1988. Earlier, Gretzky had given the Kings a ''deadline'' to get his situation straightened out by the All-Star game. The Kings' management is working under its own schedule. Antitrust lawsuit filed against NFL ATLANTA -- The Maryland Stadium Authority filed a federal antitrust lawsuit against the NFL today after the league's owners failed to vote on the proposed move of the Browns from Cleveland to Baltimore. Chairman authority John Moag said the lawsuit, which seeks initial damages of $36 million, was necessary because of ''the illegal failure of the NFL owners to approve the transfer of the franchise to Baltimore.'' The timing of the lawsuit was curious considering it came about an hour after commissioner Paul Tagliabue announced that the owners, who met for three days in Atlanta without voting on the Browns situation, would convene again on Feb. 8-9 to decide the issue. Moag said the lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Baltimore, was a ''pre-emptory strike'' designed to put pressure on the NFL owners to approve the relocation of the Browns. Browns owner Art Modell signed a deal in early November to move his team to Baltimore, but the city of Cleveland filed a state lawsuit and lobbied the owners to block the plan during the Atlanta meetings.
