NEWS BRIEFS: Public Safety: Use caution

after Center City murder The female is described as in her middle 20's and appeared to be a jogger, according to Victim Support Director Maureen Rush. The Philadelphia Police Department's Homicide Unit is investigating the murder, but currently has no leads. Rush urged female students to be particularly vigilant in the area and encouraged students to use the Penn Transit System. -- Josh Fineman Correra takes Freshman Class Board presidency Wharton freshman Clive Correia won the freshman class presidency over College freshman Sophocles Sophocles yesterday, according to Sophomore Class Board President Brett Lasher, an Engineering and Wharton sophomore. "It was highly contested," Lasher said. In the runoff for vice president, College freshman Dan Rosen beat Wharton freshman Marissa Watson. Approximately 350 freshmen voted in yesterday's runoffs. The rest of the board was selected during the first round of elections, held earlier this week. Lasher said he hopes this year's Freshman Class Board will be more active than those in years past. "I hope the sophomore and junior class boards will mentor them more so they can get more accomplished," he added. -- Randi Feigenbaum GIC to hold open house The Greenfield Intercultural Center will be opening its doors -- and its international cuisine -- to the community in an open house today from noon to 5 p.m. The GIC, which is located at 3708 Chestnut St., is a center for students and faculty members of all cultures, according to GIC Director Larry Burnley. "We provide a safe space where students can be themselves and allow various nuances of their culture to come out without being judged," Burnley said. -- Julayne Austin
