She was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where she was later treated and released. -- Josh Fineman Police officer assualted by student A male student punched another male student in the face in front of High Rise East and also assaulted a University Police officer responding to the incident at about 2:30 a.m. The student was arrested and taken to Southwest Detectives and charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and related offenses. Both the assaulted student and the police officer received minor injuries. Police responded to complaints that a male was striking at people on Locust Walk. A student had been walking with some friends when he was punched in the jaw by the suspect, who then walked away. Police received a description of the suspect and attempted to arrest him in front of the Stouffer Triangle. But the student resisted arrest and punched the officer. Police were able to restrain the student and then arrested him. -- Josh Fineman New Era bankruptcy deadline set A federal bankruptcy judge has set September 25 as the deadline for creditors of the bankrupt Foundation for New Era Philanthropy to file claims detailing their losses. The claims deadline is an important step toward determining the final amount of money owed to the Radnor, Pa.-based foundation's creditors before its assets are liquidated and distributed. Investigators estimate that New Era has about $31 million in assets available to cover about $107 million owed to hundreds of investors who had hoped to double their money in six months. State and federal investigators say New Era founder John Bennett operated an illegal Ponzi scheme. University officials invested more than $2 million in New Era and had $1.5 million with the company when it filed for bankruptcy May 15. But according to former Philadelphia bankruptcy trustee John Carroll, the University may have actually gained $2.1 million from New Era. -- The Associated Press
