To the Editor: Niki Adler Wharton '96 Chi Omega Sorority President To the Editor: I find it very difficult to comprehend how an issue as sensitive as Emily Sachs' death could be treated as flippantly and tactlessly as it was by The Daily Pennsylvanian. Upon reading the brief statement that was printed, I was appalled. Not only was the information incorrect, but I found the wording to be offensive as well. Having some journalistic background myself, I am aware of the extent of copy-editing and proofreading that takes place. I can assure you that even my junior high school newspaper would have caught the errors that your staff made. It is one thing to make a mistake in reference to the time of the service, but how the staff could have thought that to say, "Quaker Notes and Off the Beat will provide entertainment," was appropriate wording is another. The function of the service was to remember her life and her passions. Music was just as important to Emily as dance, and the performance of those two groups was to remember that point through song. We were holding a memorial service, not having a party. It astounds me that an Ivy League university can have a newspaper staff that consists of people who can be so insensitive and use such poor judgement. Kimberly Stern College '97
