W. Tennis set for two NY matches

This weekend the Penn women's tennis team travels to New York for two big matches. The Quakers, who are still undefeated at 9-0, are coming off two big wins against Maryland and Ivy League foe Princeton. Saturday the Quakers are at Cornell for their second Ivy League contest of the season. The Cornell match comes at a pivotal time for the Quakers, who are entering a long stretch of Ivy League matches. After this weekend Dartmouth and Harvard come to town, followed by road matches at Yale and Brown. Sunday Penn travels a few miles down the road to Syracuse for one of its toughest matches of the season. The top three seeds on the Syracuse team are the top three players in the East this year. The Quakers won there last year, but it will take their best stuff in order to upset the Orangemen this time around. Syracuse has played a rigorous schedule this year, facing the likes of Kansas, Arizona, Wake Forest and Pepperdine. All of those schools are women's tennis powerhouses. The Quakers are beginning to gain attention throughout their region. Rumors have swirled they will be ranked in the top 50 in the East Region. This is quite a feat for a team that is not allowed to give scholarships. "We are definitely gaining regional respect," Leary said. "For right now we will keep plugging along one match at a time." The big showdown for the Quakers will be April 8 when Harvard comes to town. Harvard is believed by many to be the strongest team in the Ivy League.
