Arrest made at Franklin Field

For the second time in as many days, Franklin Field had an unexpected visitor. But unlike Wednesday's incident, yesterday's uninvited guest was apprehended by University Police. A suspicious male was stopped at 4:29 p.m. by officers at Franklin Field yesterday, University Police Sergeant Larry Salotti confirmed last night. Officers arrested the man after they found six shirts belonging to the University athletic department in the suspect's possession. According to University Police records, the man arrested is James Patrick. The sergeant would neither confirm nor deny the identity of the suspect. Salotti said the man has been transferred to the custody of Southwest detectives. The sergeant said he did not know if detectives would be investigating whether yesterday's theft was related to the forced entry at Franklin Field Wednesday evening. University Police Sergeant Tom Rambo said Wednesday night that a room which "stores football equipment" was forcefully entered. Rambo added that two food stands and one funnel-cake stand showed signs of forced entry. In addition, a room in the George Munger Athletic Complex was found open, but Rambo said University Police did not believe force was used. The Munger Complex houses the Penn football and women's track locker rooms, and an equipment room which suffered a fire Sept. 22. Rambo said University Police could not determine if anything had been stolen. Athletic Director Steve Bilsky was unavailable for comment on either incident.
