Compiled by DP Sports Staff Then the Quakers beat Nebraska 90-80 in the first round of the NCAA tournament. They returned almost the entire squad. An extremely challenging schedule was arranged for the 1994-95 season. And as the Class of 1995 heads into its final season for the Red and Blue, the anticipation has grown as the season opens tomorrow against Canisius in the Preseason National Invitation Tournament. Last night, the first official AP poll was released, and the Quakers finished among others receiving votes. "How much respect does the preseason poll give you? Unless it's the final poll at the end of the year, it doesn't really matter," Penn junior forward Ira Bowman said. "We still have to prove ourselves. I might have a different answer at the end of the season, but right now we just have to win games." The Quakers realize respect will come only with success. "I believe we should be ranked," Penn senior center Eric Moore said. "I want to be there. Everybody wants to be there. But if we win, we'll get the respect we deserve." The Quakers have not placed much importance on the poll. Their quest for national respect begins tomorrow night. However, they still do realize it would be nice to finally get the recognition they believe they have earned.
