A chemistry laboratory experiment resulted in a student being sent to the hospital yesterday afternoon. According to Chemistry Professor and Chairperson Amos Smith, the accident occurred when a student was cleaning some glassware in a lab. "Somehow, he managed to splash some nitric acid on his face," Smith said. He described the situation as a "minor accident" because the student was wearing the proper lab protection. The student was sent to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania to be checked out, he said. Smith added that the student only suffered minor blistering to his face and that the situation was not too serious. "He has been discharged," he said. "It is not a major problem." --Amy Lipman Pulitzer Prize winner to speak Former New York Times Correspondent and Pulitzer Prize winning author Nikolas Kristof will speak in Vance Hall, room B-1, from noon to 1:30 p.m. today Kristof, who covered the famous Tiananmen Square Massacre from Beijing, will speak about China's economic development and role in the global economy.
