Associate General Counsel Neil Hamburg resigned from his position at the University this summer. After 11 years of service at the University, Hamburg said he decided to pursue other endeavors. "I left the University and have my own law practice," Hamburg said. "I also represent the University in a number of matters." Last year, Hamburg was involved in handling the "water buffalo" incident and Daily Pennsylvanian confiscation for the University. But, according to Hamburg, this did not play a role in his departure. "I wanted to explore the possibility of starting my own practice," he added. "I'm delighted to represent my alma mater." A 1977 Wharton graduate and 1980 Law School graduate, Hamburg went on to defend the University in a number of important cases. Hamburg represented the University in a case filed by Zeta Beta Tau against the University. He also fought Psi Upsilon, a fraternity that was kicked off campus after charges of kidnapping. General Counsel Shelley Green, a colleague of Hamburg's, had much praise for him. "Neil was a delightful colleague and is an excellent lawyer," Green said. " I'm sure he's going to do very well in his private practice." Currently, Hamburg has a legal practice in Philadelphia. He specializes in trial work, dealing with universities and other institutions.
