University and Philadelphia Police officers made arrests in five out of seven robberies which occurred during spring break, University Police Sergeant Joseph Risoli said last night. Risoli said that although the number of crimes was not unusual for a break period, he added that University Police did an excellent job in following up on complaints and making arrests. And many of the arrests happened during his supervision. On March 3, a Lee's Hoagie House employee was attacked at 8:57 p.m. at 41st and Locust streets by three men who pushed him off his bicycle. Philadelphia Police responded to his emergency call and arrested one of the assailants. On March 4, a student was robbed and assaulted at 37th and Walnut streets at about 9 p.m. by two men. After calling University Police from a blue light emergency telephone, officers responded and arrested Tyrone Hardy and Richard Allen, both of Philadelphia. On March 5, a person was robbed of $45 at knife-point at 42nd and Walnut streets by two men. University Police responded again, arresting Philadelphia residents Hyson Connors and Bonta Swedberg. University Police observed a man attempting to rob the Wawa Grocery Store at 36th and Chestnut streets at gunpoint at about 4 a.m. on March 6. Officers moved in and arrested Anthony Humphries of Philadelphia. On March 10, two Drexel University students and one University student were robbed at gunpoint of $49 at 36th and Sansom streets at 11:38 p.m. The students called University Police, who arrested Robert Harris and Damon Glenn, both of Philadelphia. Officers recovered the weapon used in the assault in a garbage can of a University parking lot at 38th and Walnut streets. In other incidents, though, University Police have no suspects in custody. On March 8, a second Lee's Hoagie House delivery man was robbed at gunpoint on 41st Street, between Spruce and Pine streets, at 8:12 p.m. by a man who fled in a grey car. And on March 12, a Philadelphia man was robbed of a bicycle in a simulated weapon robbery at the University Biopond near 38th Street and Hamilton Walk. When the man saw that the assailant's "weapon" was really a phone, he fought back, but still lost his bicycle. Risoli said two burglaries were also reported to University Police over break. Three hundred and eighty dollars was stolen from Auntie Anne's Pretzel store in Houston Hall over the night of March ninth and 10th. A person's apartment at 42nd and Walnut streets was robbed of a CD player, a Nikon 35 millimeter camera and a Nintendo home entertainment system on March 9. A Penn Escort van was also involved in an accident over break. The van collided with a car at 44th and Market streets. The driver of the car was injured, according to Risoli.
