Tonight, the a cappella group Penny Loafers will open their eclectic and humorous musical performance Open Bar to the University. The two-hour show will feature renditions of such favorites as "Instanbul" by They Might Be Giants and Smokey Robinson's "The Way You Do the Things You Do". Engineering senior Jeff Liebert, president of Penny Loafers, said that the group has expanded its musical focus in hopes of attracting a wider audience. "We do mostly classic rock," Liebert said. "But we are expanding into new musical genres. "We are trying to be more modern and now sing a greater variety of songs than we have in the past," the Engineering senior added. Along with the more modernized musical touches, the show as a whole is eclectic and aims for the humorous. Open Bar blends pop culture together into one big a cappella stew. "Within two hours you'll get Al Bundy, Ernie and Bert, and even a taste of the BeeGee's," College freshman Eden Jacobowitz said. Wharton Senior Tony Angeles said that humor plays a large role in the show and is important to the group. "We place a very high priority on humor," Angeles said. "We have worked very hard to bring out humor in the show." Penny Loafers will be joined by the Binghamton Crosbies, an all-male a cappella group from SUNY-Binghamton. Friday's preformance begins at 8 p.m. Tickets for Open Bar will be available on Locust Walk today and can be purchased at the door of Dunlop Auditorium for $5.
