Student targeted in attempted robbery

A female student was the target of an attempted robbery yesterday morning at 42nd and Locust streets, University Police said last night. University Police Sergeant Ivan Kimble said the student observed an unidentified female following her after she stopped at the MAC machine at 40th and Locust streets yesterday at about 11:00 a.m. Near 42nd Street, the female approached the student and pushed her into an alley, Kimble said. He added that the female told the student she had a gun and wanted all of her money. Kimble said the student began to cry at this point. The would-be-robber became apologetic and said she did not really have a gun and did not want to hurt anyone, according to Kimble. The female told the student she was hooked on drugs and wanted to be enrolled in a detoxification program. The female asked the student if she could help her out, Kimble said. The student gave the female some SEPTA tokens and a quarter to make a phone call, according to Kimble. The two then walked to 43rd Street before going their separate ways. Kimble said that no arrests were made in the incident and added the student was not injured in the attempted robbery. In an unrelated incident, two patrons got into a fistfight Monday night at University Pinball, an arcade located at 40th and Spruce streets, Kimble said. University Police arrived on the scene following the incident, which was classified as a simple assault, and advised the two parties -- a male and a female -- to file private criminal complaints. Kimble said there were no arrests made and no one was injured in the fight. In another unrelated incident, unidentified persons walked into the University Museum yesterday afternoon and stole 10 pounds of jumbo shrimp from a refrigerator, Kimble said. The shrimp have not been recovered and no arrests have been made, Kimble said.
