In a tournament against 16 other schools with approximately 160 competitors, the University team overwhelmed their rivals by scoring 255 points -- 125 points more than the second place winner, according to Lewis, a College senior. Lewis praised the team for "their ability to come through under pressure." Engineering freshman Paul Higday qualified in four of the 15 finals and won first place in extemporaneous speaking. He also placed second in both impromptu speaking and informative speaking and third in persuasive speaking. College freshman Robert Raphael also gave a strong performance, qualifying for two finals and winning dramatic interpretation of a play and placing sixth in duo interpretation of a play. Co-chairman and College senior Chad Boonswang was also a significant contributor to the team's victory. He qualified for three finals, garnering third place in prose interpretation and two fourths in poetry interpretation and dramatic interpretation of a play. -- Helen Hyun
