To the Editor: It was, perhaps, the largest Greek philanthropy event -- involving 38 of the 43 fraternities and sororities -- on Penn's campus. The 21 houses along the campus route allowed approximately 300 children to visit, and supplied the costumed kids with treats. Those not on the routes -- and even some on the routes -- sent volunteers to escort the kids. We thank all of those Greek members who donated their time and effort to help, and we hope they enjoyed it as much as the children. However, it was not only a Greek event. Many other organizations, including the Korean Student Association, Chinese Students Association, Caribbean American Students Association, South Asian Society and the Association Cultural de Estudiantes Latino Americanos sent volunteers as escorts. We would also like to express our appreciation to these groups who came together to allow children not as fortunate as we to trick-or-treat in a safe and caring environment. Without their help and support, this event could not have run so smoothly. We also extend our gratitude to President and Mrs. Hackney, the University Bookstore and the Department of Public Safety for their involvement. We applaud the people who unselfishly extended themselves to put a smile on the children's faces and to make their holiday celebration memorable. We look forward to their involvement in the future, in this program and other similar events that give students the opportunity to interact with each other and the community!
