How do 21 grams of fat per serving taste? Like Caramel Cone Explosion, Carrot Cake Passion, Triple Brownie Overload, Cappuccino Commotion and Peanutbutter Burst. Haagen Dazs will use the University this week as a marketing test-site for its recently introduced Extraas Flavors, SPEC representatives said last week. Coordinated by the Social Planning and Events Committee, the ice cream company will provide students with free samples of the new flavors and free t-shirts, buttons and hats for three days this week. Two portable ice cream carts, manned by SPEC members who will be paid $5 per hour by Haagen Dazs, will be positioned on 37th Street and Locust Walk tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Extraas Flavors will provide students with extra fat and calories, along with extra taste, according to an article in the September 21 issue of Fortune magazine. In an article entitled "Extra Sinful Ice Cream," it was reported that, with an average of 82 calories per ounce and 22 percent more calories than regular Haagen Dazs ice cream, dieters should beware of the new flavors. Wharton junior Ethan Youderian, a member of the SPEC executive board, said that Haagen Dazs approached SPEC with this programming idea. SPEC Chairperson Anne Todd said last week that Haagen Dazs representatives told her last summer that their original flavors appealed mainly to people over 50-years-old. They are now trying to appeal to a younger crowd, Todd said. "I wish SPEC could have ice cream at all its events," College senior Todd said. "I don't know anyone who doesn't like ice cream." And Youderian said he is excited about the idea of playing ice cream man for three days. "[This is] an opportunity to give students free food," Youderian said. "The only resource we're using is time."
