I was shocked and dismayed when I read in a recent article "Police arrest accused rapist" (DP 1/13/92) that "[Woodward] then indecently assaulted one [woman] and raped the other. University police would not say if the victims were injured." Rape is a violent crime. Forced sexual intercourse is an assault on a woman's body which can cause serious physical injury. The emotional trauma of a rape may last a lifetime. It is inappropriate to ask whether the "victims" were injured. No survivor of rape escapes unscathed. ANN SCHWENTKER Medical '95
