Who needs sleep?

Congratulations to 1996 Penn alumnus Dan Leibovitz, the former Temple assistant who was officially named the new head men's basketball coach at Hartford yesterday.While the implications of the hire were covered in today's DP, I can't help but note here something Leibovitz said at his press conference today, when asked the inevitable question about his former boss John Chaney's legendary practice schedules."No we're not going to practice at 5:30 a.m.," he said.

Thanks Professor Dunphy

It's certainly sad to see Fran Dunphy leave Penn. He was a fantastic coach, a great guy and to me -- as well as countless other sportswriters at The Daily Pennsylvanian -- the greatest journalism professor at Penn.You see, this University has a lot of things (heck, we even have a huge white button sitting in the middle of campus) but one thing it lacks is a journalism department.

It's official

If you're reading this while sipping your morning coffee, the word officially went out late last night that Fran Dunphy has accepted the offer to become Temple's head coach.When I first heard the news, I was not surprised, but I nonetheless could not help lamenting the end of an extraordinary era of Penn basketball.
