This weekend, the Penn men’s golf team got a taste of what they’ll lose when the seniors graduate in May and what talent they’ve gained in the freshman class.
Having already shattered the team record for the lowest single round in the program’s seven-year history twice this year, the Quakers bested the new single-round record of 301 by shooting a 297 Sunday at the Richmond Invitational and finished in 3rd place.
After shooting a 309 Saturday, the Quakers found themselves in 13th place out of 17 teams at the Big 5 Invitational. They were able to rebound quickly Sunday and tied Binghamton for fourth place with an overall two-round total of 600.
Although this weekend’s Princeton Invitational results were “no surprise” according to Anderson, the Quakers shot their lowest single round, 305, and combined scores, 617, for a 36-hole tournament in the program’s seven-year history.
Despite the early-season learning curve, the Quakers were still disappointed this weekend after finishing in last place at the 15-team, two-day Maryland Intercollegiate Tournament at Cambridge, Md.
