Former Tulane quarterback Richard Irvin has officially transferred to Harvard.
In 2004 the then-redshirt freshman appeared in all nine games and made two starts for the Green Wave, completing 59 of 106 passes for seven touchdowns against four interceptions.
In his first start, against Texas Christian, Irvin was 22-for-37 with 282 yards and five touchdowns, including the game-winner with 48 seconds left -- a pass which capped off a 99-yard scoring drive.
The Santa Monica, Calif. native joins a Crimson football team initially picked to finish second to Penn in this year's Ivy League media poll.
Irvin will battle with fellow sophomore Liam O'Hagan for the starting job this fall. The two recently split time in Harvard's pre-season scrimmage with Columbia on September 3.
O'Hagan threw three touchdown passes in the first and third quarters, while Irvin threw for 286 yards and a TD in the other two to lead Harvard to a 41-27 win against the Lions this past Saturday at Harvard Stadium.
Harvard officially begins its 2005 season on Sept. 17 as they take on Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass.
