Fran Dougherty, a 6-foot-8 senior center for Archbishop Wood in nearby Warminster, Pa., announced yesterday afternoon at a news conference that he will be joining the Red and Blue this fall.

The Quakers fell to 1-12 Wednesday evening at the Palestra, losing 76-57 to the Explorers. They've now lost a program-record 12 straight Big 5 games.

AD Steve Bilsky stressed that the decision was not made entirely based on the team’s poor start. Assistant coach and former Quakers star Jerome Allen will take over as interim coach.




Seventh loss Taylor-made

In Saturday night’s 80-75 loss to Monmouth in West Long Branch, N.J., Hawks sophomore Travis Taylor torched the Quakers for a game-high 28 points as Penn fell to 0-7 on the year.
