	Since the schools renewed their rivalry in 1988, 16 of the 17 games played between the Dragons and the Quakers have been played at the Palestra.

It’s all too easy to forget about the hoops rivalry between Penn and Drexel these days, especially since it’s not an annual thing anymore. The Red and Blue will not square off with the Blue and Gold in 2013-14, just like they didn’t in 2011-12.


In addition to taking the floor in the Delco Pro-Am league, rising senior Miles Cartwright, the premier point guard for the Quakers, has taken his ambitions and passion to the West Coast, working for the Sports Challenge Leadership Academy.

The DP caught up with former first-team All-Ivy Penn guard and current Colgate coach Matt Langel to see what it was like coaching under Fran Dunphy for seven years at Penn and Temple and more.

On Monday, the Quakers picked up their first commitment for their upcoming recruiting class in Mike Auger. We sat down with Auger to discuss why he chose Penn, his relationship with the men’s hoops coaching staff and his role on the basketball court.

Currently, a good number of Penn players, from veterans Dougherty and Miles Cartwright to incoming freshman Matt Howard, are participating in the Delaware County Pro-Am Summer League, taking place at Haverford College.

Even though the first men’s hoops tourney is played in Memphis, the Palestra will remain a potential site for future tourneys, since both the women’s and men’s tournaments are both expected to move on a rotating basis.

This past weekend, I had the chance to talk to recruit Jack Williams about his visit to Penn, his place in the recruiting process and his thoughts about his playing ability on the court.



	Robert Morris head coach Andy Toole was a guard for Penn basketball from 2000-03 and served as an assistant under Mike Rice at Robert Morris from 2007-10.
