Penn loses two at Palestra

Despite playing in Hawkins’ favorite venue, the Quakers greeted junior Julia Swanson’s return from injury with a 1-2 record as hosts of the Holiday Inn HD Tournament. Penn beat St. Francis (Pa.), 3-0, but fell 3-0 to Santa Clara and 3-1 to tournament champion Albany.

In 2008, the team entered its Ivy opener with Harvard at 2-3-1, yet managed a 2-0 victory. However, although the Quakers entered Saturday’s match boasting a winning record and a victory over then-No. 25 Pittsburgh, they fell flat in a 3-2 loss.

After that the Red and Blue continued to hit hard and never looked back en route to a 57-7 win over arch rival Princeton at Franklin Field.

The emphasis on eliminating penalties certainly paid off as the Quakers (3-5, 1-1 Ivy) notched their first Ivy win of the season, topping the Crimson (3-3, 0-2) 4-1 in Boston.

University officials still do not know the cause of College senior Kenneth Nwannunu’s death last Wednesday. The Philosophy, Politics and Economics major passed away while studying abroad in Shanghai for the semester.

This fall, the Nominations and Elections Committee has counted a total of 55 freshmen running for either the Class Boards or the Undergraduate Assembly. 15 of the 55 are running for both branches.
