A round up of crime for the week of Oct. 19 to Oct. 25

Eugenia Garvin, a first-year resident in Penn’s Department of Emergency Medicine, conducted research indicating that cleaning and caring for vacant lots makes residents feel safer and may also reduce crime. The study was published in the journal “Injury Prevention” in August 2012.

Assault: Sept. 20 – A 34-year-old male officer was assaulted when responding to a radio call by a 23-year-old male suspect of the 100 block of S.

Between Jan. 1 and Sept. 16 of 2011, there were 19 thefts from building in Van Pelt. In the same time period in 2012, there were only five.

Police officers and volunteer clergy members are going door-to-door discussing with residents ways to improve neighborhood security.

During a New Student Orientation event on Aug. 30, a male and female couple posing as Penn parents stole several items, including multiple cell phones, from Houston Hall.

Three individuals were charged Thursday morning with a series of armed robberies, including Monday’s incident that triggered a UPennAlert. Three more were arrested for stealing a bicycle at Rodin College House.
