Here are some takeaways from Friday night’s matchup as the Quakers look on toward an Ivy League slate that figures to be much more demanding.

Led by senior guard Ashley Russell, who had a dominant game on both ends of the floor, the Quakers dismantled Brown in their first conference home game of the season.

To start the game, the Quakers took a 2-0 lead off of junior guard Devon Goodman’s fastbreak layup and never looked back, leading for the rest of the game and ultimately taking down the Bears, 92-82.

Ivy League play continues for both Penn men's and women's basketball as the Quakers take on Brown. The men are looking to win back-to-back Ivy games for the first time this season, while the women are hoping to stay undefeated in league play.

Winners of their last nine out of 10 games, the Red and Blue rolled through their first Ivy League road trip of the year in New York last weekend, defeating both Cornell and Columbia in convincing fashion.

The defending Ivy League champion Quakers have gotten off to a rocky start in conference play, but with wins this weekend they could build up some significant momentum going into a four-game home stand.

Now in its second season of play with the Red and Blue, the practice squad consists of eight players and has become an integral part of the program. 

Penn basketball had a busy weekend in New York against Cornell and Columbia, with the women’s team winning both games and the men splitting their pair of matchups. 

Brodeur led the Quakers in scoring in two strong performances against Cornell and Columbia over the weekend.

One day after falling to Cornell in a game that came down to the final minutes, Penn men’s basketball defeated Columbia, 72-70, for the team’s first Ivy League win of the season. 

In a game of runs, Penn women’s basketball held on late to beat Columbia, 72-60. The Quakers remain the only undefeated team in the Ivy League. 

The women start first at 5:30 p.m., looking to stay undefeated at the top of the League, while the men will follow at 8 looking for their first win of the Ivy season. 

Parker's contributions helped Penn women’s basketball cruise past the Big Red, 59-46.  

Six days after clinching the outright Big 5 title, Penn men’s basketball lost to Cornell, 80-71, for the team’s third consecutive loss in Ivy League play. 

Penn's first Ivy weekend of the year opens with a doubleheader at Cornell. The men start first at 5 p.m. and the women will follow at 7:30.  

The focus for too many fans will be the race for fourth place rather than the quest for first.

After losing the Ivy League championship game and graduating four seniors last year, Penn women’s basketball has been able to reinvent itself this season.
