Guide to staying safe on campus

Penn’s location near the center of urban Philadelphia offers access to a ton of city resources and easy transportation. But as with any urban center, it is important to know how to best keep yourself safe. Penn’s Division of Public Safety works 24 hours with a force of over 100 police officers to guard us — in addition to the Philadelphia Police Department — and they offer many safeguards to students and faculty on campus. 









Mayor Nutter talks sex and safety at DPS Commendation Ceremony

“When you are 18 years old, sex is always an emergency,” City of Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter told a room full of public safety officers and supporters on Wednesday. Nutter was speaking at the Division of Public Safety Commendation Ceremony, which was also the Undergraduate Assembly and Graduate and Professional Students Assembly Recognition Awards.







Penn Law profs. oppose new sexual misconduct investigative procedures

On Feb. 18, nearly one-third of the Law School’s tenure or tenure-track faculty published an open letter criticizing the new sexual violence investigative procedures instituted by the University on Feb. 1. The letter argues that the new policy does not provide due process and leaves students accused of sexual misconduct at risk of being found wrongfully responsible.





Former Penn Student Anthony Bagtas sentenced: 11.5 months confinement

Former Penn student Tony Bagtas was sentenced to 11.5 to 23 months of confinement with immediate parole for incidents including a series of computer thefts in the Quadrangle last spring. Bagtas — who would currently be a College sophomore had he not left Penn following the charges — will serve 5 years of probation after his confinement. He must also pay restitution to victimized College sophomore Kimberly Corson, in addition to court costs and fines.
