Mariana Martinez | Taylor Swift and the white feminist department

Look, I’m a Swiftie. “I Knew You Were Trouble” is probably one of my favorite songs ever. But lately, I have noticed a concerning tendency in the fan base to defend and praise Taylor Swift’s every move. On X (formerly known as Twitter), it’s easy to find a pile of tweets along the lines of “Taylor can do whatever she wants, she’s Taylor Swift!” I don’t think people realize how many problematic actions we’ve let slide because of this cultish loyalty.

Jane Holahan | What it means to destigmatize disability accommodations

(04/25/24 11:45pm)

As Penn’s home for academic support and disability services, the Weingarten Center works with students in all 12 schools. Students seek assistance in strengthening their study strategies to undertake their academic work with confidence. They also look to Weingarten as a safe space to disclose their disabilities and discuss accommodations that level the playing field. Our work with students has a common theme: Weingarten’s mission is to destigmatize what it means to ask for academic assistance and accommodations based on a disability. As the executive director, I am keenly aware of my staff’s ongoing efforts to provide reassurance to those who utilize our services, letting them know they are not alone.

Yet, in the routine of our daily lives amidst contemporary injustices, one must ponder — would we really be any different?

Zaid Alsubaiei | Beware of Penn Course Review

(04/26/24 11:43am)

With the spring semester coming to a close, there is much to look forward to: the flowers on campus are starting to bloom, seniors are graduating in May, and students just finished enjoying a much anticipated Spring Fling. However, for those of us who are not seniors, a concern still remains as we enter finals season and summer: course registration.
