Penn Medicine plans to open a new outpatient cardiovascular surgical center in King of Prussia in partnership with several other organizations, according to a May 29 announcement.
The new $10 million facility — founded in cooperation with the Cardiology Consultants of Philadelphia, Cardiovascular Logistics, and Surgical Care Affiliates Health — is expected to open later this year. In return for its investment, Penn will “have a minority ownership interest in the venture,” according to the original May 29 press release acquired by The Daily Pennsylvanian.
Penn will also be represented on the center’s board of directors and within clinical oversight committees.
A request for comment was left with Penn Med.
The center will serve to make cardiovascular care “quality driven, accessible and efficient” for patients in the Philadelphia area, according to SCA Health president Winborne Macphail.
“Across our health system, Penn Medicine is proud to offer patients as many options as possible to receive high-quality care close to their homes,” Karen Pinsky, chief executive officer of Penn Medicine Chester County Hospital, said in the release. “We are excited to play a strategic role in this exciting collaborative venture to be part of the latest chapter in innovative cardiovascular care for patients in the Philadelphia region.”
The center’s 13,100-square-foot facility will include equipment essential to performing complex procedures. The press release noted the inclusion of Philips Medical Azurion X-ray and hemodynamic systems — technology that centralizes equipment for doctors by combining live X-ray imaging with real-time measures like blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygenation. The center will also include three operating rooms, one procedure room, and 12 pre- and post-operational bays.
CCP — a private practice group of cardiologists that serves the five southeastern Pennsylvania counties — is the largest independent cardiac care practice in the United States and a founding partner of the center.

“This collaboration represents a major step forward in delivering convenient, cost-effective care while maintaining the highest standards in safety and clinical excellence,” Mark Victor, chief executive officer of CCP, wrote in the press release. “By partnering with these exceptional organizations, we’re creating a best-in-class facility that puts patients first and ensures rapid access to advanced cardiovascular procedures.”
Penn Med has maintained a relationship with CCP, as several CCP cardiologists are affiliated with the Penn Med Chester County Hospital and will likely transfer some services to the new center.
