Spring has sprung, but the Quakers are still looking to blossom.

Penn women’s golf went 0-2 in this weekend’s Match Madness, losing to Seton Hall and Columbia in match-play format. This event, hosted by Princeton, was played at Fox Hollow Golf Club in Branchburg, New Jersey.

The Quakers struggled in their first competition against Seton Hall, dropping 3.5 matches against the Pirates while winning 1.5. Because of this defeat, they then faced Columbia in the consolation final, where they lost three of their five individual matches.

This weekend marked the second event in which Penn has competed this spring. Two weeks ago, the team finished seventh out of 15 at the William & Mary Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Virginia.

One of the bright spots for the Red and Blue this weekend was junior Janet Zhang, who won both of her matches in the fourth spot. Freshman Rina Jung also won her match against Columbia’s Amy Ding, and sophomore Christina Park halved her contest with Seton Hall’s Mia Kress.

In the number two spot, senior Tiffany Yau dropped her pair of matches versus Seton Hall’s Lizzie Win and Columbia’s Emily Chu, while senior Michelle Yom went 0-2 against the Pirates’ Sammie Staudt and the Lions’ Katie Lee. In her sole match of the weekend, Sophomore Yubin Huh was defeated by Kim Chiang from Columbia.

This weekend was a change from what the Quakers are accustomed to, being their first and only competition of the year that is not a 54-hole event.

Next up for the squad is a journey down to Osprey, Fla., where the Red and Blue will be competing in the Harvard Invitational next weekend. They look to enjoy this trip by getting back into the win column.
