The Institute of International Education released its annual Open Doors Report on study aboard, providing data on the last 13 years of United States college students furthering their education abroad.
In 2012-13, the most recent year with data, 76.3 percent of students studying abroad were white, the lowest during the 13 years. The number has steadily decreased from 84.3 percent in 2000-01 to the current percentage.
Meanwhile, each other ethnicity listed have each grown percentage-wise since 2000-01. Hispanic or Latino students account for 7.6 percent of those abroad while Asian, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islanders account for 7.3 percent. African-American students are 5.3 percent while three percent of those studying abroad are multiracial. The other 0.5 percent are Native American or an Alaska Native.
Around 65 percent of students studying abroad have been female during the 13 year period, with 65.3 percent in 2012-13.
