Fire started on 40th Street this afternoon

The fire began in a house and did not result in any injuries

A fire at 401 S. 40th St., around 40th and Pine streets, was called in Tuesday at 6:15 p.m., according to the Philadelphia Fire Department. No one was injured in the fire, and it was extinguished by the occupants by the time the department arrived.

A neighbor who lives a few doors down said she saw four firetrucks surrounding the house. The residents left the house covered in soot, she added, and firefighters carried out a couch that looked burned.

According to the neighbor, someone in the apartment was trying to mimic a trick with Purell shown on YouTube in which Purell glows blue when set on fire. However, the attempt backfired.
