A man unaffiliated with the University was robbed with a silver handgun in the area of 4038 Spruce St. last night.

The suspect, a male described as wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, took the victim’s computer and backpack. The victim did not suffer any injuries, according to the Division of Public Safety.

At this time, no suspects have been taken into custody, and police are continuing to investigate.

A UPennAlert was issued at 11:55 p.m. with a warning to avoid the area of 42nd and Spruce streets, where the victim had originally told police the robbery occurred. The all-clear message was sent at 12:42 a.m.

Additional Penn and Philadelphia police officers, as well as AlliedBarton and University City District officers, were patrolling the area.
