They’re back.
After a four-year absence, the men’s lacrosse team has finally made it back to the NCAA tournament. The team received an at-large bid earlier this evening and will face No. 4 Notre Dame in Foxboro, Mass., Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
On the heels of a devastating loss to Harvard the semifinals of the Ivy Tournament, the Quakers (8-6, 4-2 Ivy) had to wait the entire weekend before hearing from the selection committee.
The Quakers last played in the NCAA Tournament in 2006 where they lost to No. 4 Johns Hopkins. Penn has made just three appearances in the postseason since 1989.
Notre Dame is 10-2 on year, having lost their last two games to No. 1 Syracuse and No. 7 North Carolina. The Fighting Irish, who lost in overtime to Duke in the title game, have held opponents to under seven goals per game and possess a balanced scoring attack.
The winner will take on the winner of the Duke-Delaware match in the quarterfinals on Sunday, May 22.
