Women's tennis enacts revenge on Owls at Levy Pavilion

Quakers beat Temple 5-2 Wednesday

After 10 days away from competition, Penn women’s tennis returned to Levy Pavilion picking up right where it left off, earning a 5-2 win over Temple Wednesday.

Last season, the match with the Owls (2-2) was split in singles competition and came down to the doubles matches, where Temple took two of three and emerged victorious.

This year Penn (4-2) again lost the doubles point, as only the first team of Connie Hsu and Alexa Ely — ranked third in the nation — won (8-1).

But in singles competition, the Quakers took all but one match, with each win coming in straight sets.

Hsu, a freshman, remains undefeated through six matches this spring after beating Teresa Stangl, 6-0, 6-0, in the top singles match. It was her third shutout of the young season.

In the six spot, Penn junior Emily Wolf won a tight match, 7-6 (4), 7-5, over Josephine Bergman.

The Quakers’ one loss came from junior Daniela DePaoli, who lost the first set, 6-4, before falling in a tiebreaker in the second set, 7-6 (6). DePaoli is now 4-2 on the season.

Penn’s layoff will be decidedly shorter as the return to action at Levy on Sunday morning against Richmond.
