Congratulations! Now that you’ve finally managed to secure a roof over your head for the next year, it’s time to deck out the walls of your home away from home. Although the proper furniture and decor can quickly transform a closet-sized single in the Quadrangle into a cozy hideaway, splurging on throw pillows and colorful rugs is not the only way to go.

There are several wallet-friendly options for students without a bed to sleep on. You could browse the easy-to-assemble and moderately priced furniture at IKEA. Located at 2206 S. Columbus Blvd., IKEA is a favorite among cash-strapped college students and sells everything from bookshelves to plastic wine glasses. If the characteristic blue-and-yellow building doesn’t suit your decorating needs, maybe the eccentrically patterned comforters and desk accessories at Target, located at 1 Mifflin St., will liven up your living space.

For those opting for off-campus housing, previous tenants may sell their furniture at a relatively low price. If you’ve got your eye on their bright red loveseat, be sure to notify the landlord so that your future desk chair isn’t accidentally trashed during cleanout. Used furniture is also available for sale on Craigslist for anyone daring enough to buy a bed without knowing who’s slept in it.

Some nearby apartment buildings, such as Hamilton Court, The Hub and The Radian also offer rental furniture to residents. You may not be able to call the table in the kitchen your own, but at least you won’t have to carry it up the stairs.
