New cosmetics store bluemercury2 replaces Douglas Cosmetics

Cosmetics and beauty store bluemercury2 took over former retailer Douglas Cosmetics this Saturday at 3603 Walnut St., according to bluemercury District Manager Sondra Silvestri.

The store will sell the same products as Douglas, and may expand its merchandise in the future, Silvestri said.

DouglasCosmetics.com’s home page now displays a farewell from the company, saying all four U.S. locations of Douglas Cosmetics were closed this year after a corporate decision to focus on its core European market. The retailer is the largest cosmetics chain on the European continent, with over 1,000 stores in 20 nations.

bluemercury2 is the second bluemercury retailer in Philadelphia. Its sister store, bluemercury, is located in Rittenhouse Square at 1707 Walnut St. This Center City location also offers spa services such as facials, waxes and massages.

The retailer will be open the same hours as Douglas.

Shoppers can find bluemercury stores in ten states and Washington, D.C., and purchase goods online as well.

The Douglas location on Walnut Street opened in 1998. Douglas stores have been in the United States for over 20 years.

Based in Hagen, Germany, the retailer was a subsidiary of the Douglas Group, which operates perfumeries, bookstores, a jeweler, a clothing store and confectioneries in Europe.
