Final sorority presents to Panhel extension

Alpha Delta Pi made its pitch on Friday night

The fifth and final Panhellenic Council extension presentation, featuring Alpha Delta Pi, took place Friday night in Irvine Auditorium.

The event marks the completion of another round in the Panhel extension process. According to Panhel advisor Stacy Kraus, the extension committee will arrive at its final decision by Oct. 24. After notification, the candidate will then begin engaging in colonization, a process by which the newly selected group will fully integrate itself into the Greek system at Penn.

Out of the five presentations, both ADPi and Zeta Tau Alpha — which presented Thursday night — had a large number of collegiate members and alumnae present to show solidarity.

During the presentation, ADPi representatives emphasized that the group is capable of rallying support from alumnae and members in the surrounding Philadelphia area.

According to Clair Gwaltney, the international president of ADPi, seven collegiate chapters are located in Pennsylvania. The group also has chapters chartered to campuses across the tri-state area — one of which is the University of Delaware.

Each of the five candidates at the Panhel extension events highlighted areas that were their strengths. For ADPi, that area was leadership training. According to ADPi Director of Recruitment Rebecca Gentry, the group offers extensive programming for leadership training at both the regional and national levels.

Further emphasizing the group’s commitment to producing leaders, ADPi alumna and Graduate School of Education student Hannah Rothman said ADPi’s focus on leadership training makes it a good fit for Penn, because leadership is a value that resonates with Penn students.

Another prominent feature of the presentation was ADPi’s philanthropy, Ronald McDonald House Charities. Students smiled and responded warmly as photos of ADPi sisters posing with Ronald McDonald at various philanthropy events popped up on the large flat panel display. ADPi representatives stressed that Penn was a good location for this particular cause because a Ronald McDonald house is located close to campus.

College sophomore and Alpha Phi sister Samantha Lieberman was impressed by ADPi’s work with Ronald McDonald House Charities. “I like that their philanthropy is hands-on,” she said.
