The lawyer for Susan Finkelstein, the part-time Liberal and Professional Studies graduate student accused of attempting to trade sex for Phillies World Series tickets last October, denied the charges laid against Finkelstein at a hearing last Friday.
Judge Albert Cepparulo, however, ruled that there was sufficient evidence to try Finkelstein on the charges of prostitution and attempted prostitution. He also refused to dismiss the case against her, although prosecutors did withdraw the more serious charge of promoting prostitution.
“You can be a slut — that’s not illegal,” Finkelstein’s attorney William J. Brennan argued in court, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Brennan said Monday that the case was “held in error” and that “it should never have gone to court.”
He added that no laws were broken, since no sex occurred and nothing of value was exchanged.
The case will proceed as scheduled on Feb. 24.
