Tap House is expected to open in the Radian Apartments Aug. 1, according to Brian Harrington, founder of Public House Investments, which owns the restaurant.

He said he hopes for it to be up and running before the bulk of the University community returns for the fall semester.

Although plans are currently in the design stage, he said he anticipates construction to begin around May 15.

Penn's Facilities and Real Estate Services declined to comment about the restaurant because no lease has been signed, according to Executive Director of Real Estate Ed Datz.

Comprising approximately 12,500 square feet including both the inside and out, Tap House's size "pretty much makes it the biggest thing at the University of Pennsylvania," said Harrington.

The restaurant will be casual, with about 160 seats inside and another 160 outside, and centered around a "state of the art" 75-line draft system with European and American craft beers - a beer-lover's emporium, said Harrington.

He said the menu will feature "wholesome" comfort food, including salads, pastas, paninis, pizzas made in a wood-burning oven and other "moderately-priced" entrees.

The interior design will use reclaimed wood, said Harrington, and "chill live music" will complete the ambience.

Calling the location "ideal," he added that Tap House will be perfect for everything from a date to a meal before a football or basketball game, as well as "a great spot for kids and parents to go out to dinner."
