A fire forced some students to evacuate the Quadrangle Friday evening.
Division of Public Safety spokeswoman Stef Cella and Facilities workers on the scene said a lamp ignited a bed sheet in a dorm room on the first floor of Leidy, which is located on the south side of the Upper Quad, at about 7 p.m.
The sprinkler system went off quickly, a Facilities worker said. Water seeped through the floor, causing flooding in the Leidy basement.
Students were evacuated from the area, and part of Spruce Street near the Quad was blocked off until shortly before 8 p.m. No injuries were reported, Cella said. She said students were allowed back in the building at about 7:30 p.m.
House Dean April Herring, who helped students remove belongings from their rooms, would not comment on the incident.
The Penn Police, DPS Fire and Emergency Services and the Philadelphia Fire Department responded to the fire.
