The Civic House Associates Coalition elected two new leaders Tuesday night who plan to increase collaboration among constituent groups and visibility both on campus and in the West Philadelphia community.

College and Wharton junior Julia Luscombe and College junior Nick Eng will serve as co-chairs of CHAC, Penn's community service umbrella organization which includes 50 member groups.

Luscombe wrote in an e-mail that she decided to run because "community service has been a large and meaningful part of my time at Penn" and because she wants to help its network of community service groups grow and thrive.

Eng also wanted to increase his involvement based on his positive experience with Penn community service. "It seemed like a great way to get to know more groups and increase collaboration," he said.

They said their priorities include increasing CHAC's visibility on campus, reaching out to freshmen and new group members and mobilizing resources for Penn's service groups. They also plan to increase CHAC's presence in West Philadelphia through new partnerships and initiatives.

"Given their excitement for the position as well as their leadership skills and past community service experience, we look forward to their success as leaders of this organization," outgoing chairs Wharton senior Rebecca Zeitels and College senior Ashley Templeton wrote in an e-mail.
