Furda appoints vice deans of admissions

Eric Furda, Penn's incoming Dean of Admissions, recently made two senior appointments to the admissions office.

Furda appointed Quenby Jackson Mott the vice dean and director of Undergraduate admissions and David Phillips the vice dean of admissions and director of information and management systems.

According to a press release, Mott's job will be to report directly to Furda and serve as "the lead manager guiding recruitment, outreach, and selection strategies for Penn's four undergraduate schools."

She is no stranger to Penn's admissions office, having previously worked in the admissions office from 1996-2005, including as an associate dean from 2002-2005.

During that time as associate dean, she served as a liaison between the admissions office and the School of Nursing, the Huntsman Program in International Studies and Business and the department of intercollegiate athletics.

Phillips has previous experience working under Furda. He has worked at Columbia University for 19 years and is currently an associate dean of enrollment management services for the division of student affairs. This included the undergraduate admissions and financial aid offices.

Furda served as executive director of undergraduate admissions at Columbia from 1995-2004.

While at Columbia, Phillips helped implement its digital imaging system to help process and review applications.

Penn's admissions office is moving to an electronic filing system for the 2008-2009 admissions cycle.

Furda officially becomes dean of admissions July 1, taking over for interim Dean of Admissions Eric Kaplan.

Mott and Phillips will also both begin their positions this summer.
