Drexel University announced last week that it will begin a graduate studies program in Sacramento, Calif.
This program is just the first in what Drexel hopes will be a network of graduate campuses across the country. Other target cities for similar programs - pending the success of the Sacramento program - include Phoenix, Miami, Los Angeles and Dallas or Houston.
Penn has a similar program, and could expand it to other campuses in the future. The Wharton West campus, located in San Francisco, offers an MBA program to about 200 students - and a Wharton committee is considering the possibility of opening more campuses.
At first, Drexel's program will offer five areas of study: business administration, engineering management, higher education, information systems and library and information science.
The program will open with about 100 students in January, and Drexel hopes to increase this number to about 800 or 900 in the next five years.
The university also plans to open a Californian undergraduate campus in Placer County, but this project is expected to take five to seven years to complete.
