March 13 - 4:45 p.m.
A Dental student was held captive in his apartment by armed robbers for about 12 hours earlier this week.
One man, Justin Sheppard, 25, of Havertown, has been arrested in connection with the incident.
The student was walking out of his apartment, located at 4311 Spruce St., on March 9 at about 11:30 p.m. when he was confronted by a white male and a black male and forced back inside at gunpoint, according to Sgt. Charles Layton of the Philadelphia Police.
Sheppard and another man allegedly tied up the Dental student and forcibly made the student give up his credit card, debit card and PIN code. One man waited with the student, while the other went out to make sure the PIN was correct, Layton said.
After the men left the apartment at about 11 a.m. on March 10, the student freed himself and contacted the police, Layton said.
Sheppard was arrested March 10 at about 9 p.m. by Philadelphia Police.
The student sustained only minor injuries and was not hospitalized.
Sheppard, who faces charges of robbery, aggravated assault, kidnapping and forced imprisonment, has not been connected with any other crimes, Layton said.
