In contrast to the homicide and four major robberies that occurred over last year's winter break, University City experienced relatively few major crimes this vacation.
Over the past month, three assaults and three robberies were reported in the Penn patrol zone. Wharton junior Felix Qu was arrested in connection with a domestic assault, but none of the victims was affiliated with the University.
Qu, 20, was arrested by Penn Police on Dec. 21 in connection with a domestic assault that occurred at about 11:15 a.m. at 3928 Pine St., according to Division of Public Safety officials.
Qu faces charges of simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. He has been released on $1,500 bail.
In an unrelated incident, Laquisha McCary, 20, allegedly stabbed her boyfriend with a knife on Dec. 22. The incident took place in her home on 100 block of S. 43rd St. at about 8 a.m., according to Sgt. Charles Layton of the Philadelphia Police.
McCary, who is not affiliated with the University, was arrested by the Philadelphia Police and charged with aggravated assault.
McCary's boyfriend was injured in the assault, DPS officials said. No further information about his condition was available.
In a separate incident, a 61-year-old woman had her purse snatched while she was walking home on the 200 block of Sloan St. on Jan. 4 at about 7 p.m.
The purse was taken after the woman was knocked over from behind by two young males, Layton said.
The woman sustained only minor injuries. No arrests have been made.
In an unrelated robbery, on Dec. 29, two 14-year-olds, two 13-year-olds, one 11-year-old and a 16-year-old allegedly robbed two female juveniles of their cell phones and pocketbooks on the 300 block of 43rd St., DPS officials said.
No weapon was used and the victims experienced minor injuries.
The six juveniles were arrested by Penn and Philadelphia Police and have been charged with robbery.
In another unrelated robbery, a 16-year-old and a 14-year-old allegedly demanded that a 21-year-old male hand over his wallet on Woodland Walk on Dec. 27 at about 8:45 p.m., Layton said. The juveniles did not use a weapon.
After the male, who is not affiliated with the University, handed over his wallet, he flagged down a police car. The police pursued the juveniles and the wallet was immediately recovered.
