Facial injury kept Healy on the bench vs. Princeton

Penn coach leaves starter for Saturday's game up in the air

Starting goalkeeper Drew Healy missed Saturday's game, a 1-0 loss to Princeton, because of a facial injury, Quakers coach Rudy Fuller revealed yesterday.

Healy, who has started all but two contests this season, sustained the injury in midweek training.

He "took a shot to the face from close range," the coach said.

In his absence, Kevin Sweetland got the nod, conceding the game-winning goal against the Tigers but impressing his coach.

"Over the course of 90 minutes, he was outstanding in goal," Fuller said of the sophomore, whose only other start was in the season opener, an ugly 6-2 loss at Seton Hall.

Fuller characterized Healy's injury as "day to day," and would not reveal any kind of timetable for a return.

Penn's next game is Saturday at Harvard, by which time Healy would have had around a week and a half to recover.

"We reevaluate him on a daily basis," Fuller said. "He will be out there when the time is right."

On average, Healy has conceded almost a goal and a half per game this year, and his save percentage of .706 is the worst among the Ivy League's starting goalkeepers.

He beat out Sweetland and freshman Ben Berg for the starting job vacated by 2006 graduate and Red Bull New York member Dan Cepero.

"We have more than one option as a goalkeeper and Kevin proved that this past weekend," said Fuller, who did not reveal the game-day starter against Harvard.
