After a week long tour of the Golden State, freshman Marissa Rosen emerged as Penn's top competitor.

Although Penn (192.95) fell just short of Sacramento State (193.925) in its first meet over break, the highlight of the meet was Rosen's win in the all-around with 39.075 points.

Rosen captured first place on vault (9.75), and tied for first on beam (9.825) and floor (9.850) en route to ECAC co-rookie of the week honors.

Penn also placed five of the top eight scores on the bars.

After tying for first at the Ivy Classic, Lizzie Lowe (9.80) nailed down third place and junior Kimberly Chin (9.70), Rosen (9.650), sophomore Stephanie Navarro (9.6235), and junior Stephanie

Ortiz (9.475) finished at fifth through eighth respectively.

Throughout the season, Penn has been plagued on the beam by inconsistent performances. At Sacramento, however, beam was the Red and Blue's strongest event as the team notched a team-high 48.675. Ortiz and sophomore Jordan Brewer contributed to the season-high, tying for fourth both with 9.775s.

On the floor, Sarah Wexler continued to shine, notching a 9.775 giving her a fifth-place finish.

On Friday, the team competed at Berkeley where the Quakers (191.225) had another strong showing but still came up short against Berkeley (194.575) but defeated Air Force (183.5).

Rosen came through again, placing second in the all-around competition (39.10). Her best performance was a first place finish on floor (9.875).

Lutfey, who has been strong in the second half of the season, contributed two solid performances on beam (9.575) and floor (9.725). Brewer and Wexler also continued to have a strong road trip with Brewer placing sixth on vault (9.675) and Wexler contributing a 9.80 on the floor.

Despite losing both meets, Penn raised its level of competition over the break and started to shrug off the notion of a young and inexperienced team.

"It's given [the team] more confidence in their ability," coach John Ceralde said about the road trip who considered the trip to be a success despite the losses.

After having broken the 190 mark in the Ivy Classic for the first time this season, the Quakers averaged 192.0875 points in its two meets - no small feat for a team that has struggled mightily on the road.
